I do know what kayaking is, but it would also make an excellent name for a sea creature.

I'm having second thoughts about canoeing over. There's not really room for all the wonderful things I would buy. :/

Some postulate that the sound may come from a huge and as-yet-undiscovered species of octopus or squid, or possibly a new species of gigantic whale or fish even larger than the blue whale. Others dispute this, pointing out that all known cephalopods lack the gas-filled sac necessary to produce this type of sound, and that a cetacean larger than a blue whale would still have to surface for oxygen, making it susceptible to sightings, unless it had some smaller breathing apparatus, not unlike an elephant's trunk.

The site of the Bloop is remarkably close to the site of the fictional city of R'lyeh from H. P. Lovecraft's short story The Call of Cthulhu, where an ancient undersea monster (the Cthulhu) lies sleeping. Lovecraft said that R'lyeh is located at 47°9′S 123°43′W in the southern Pacific Ocean, with the bloop also being targeted somewhere in that range. This has, presumably jocularly, lead many fans to say that the sound was created by Cthulhu.

I think this is actually the idea thread for a zany sitcom where one person is black, one is a nerd, one is a hot young unmarried woman, and one who seems at first to be comic relief will reveal toward the end of the season that he has some terrible illness that he's been hiding from his friends, at which point the hot young unmarried woman starts to have feelings for him.
I may not be on crack, but I'm getting a lot of caffiene and a lot of chocolate these days.

Update: Rachel is settling into Melbourne well! She's got her room in the college and it's a really cool room! It's like Harry Potter's broom cupboard but a little bigger! (I think it was originally built for a munchkin or someone vertically challenged.)

I took her out for breakfast and some shopping, then we went back to her place and watched the first 4-5 episode of Heroes woo! The Japanese dude rocks.
