What (old) game had the Gelatinous Cube? Nethack? Moria? Dungeons and Dragons.

Yeah, I know... Before your time.

Blue, my nephews play D&D. I'm not sure that game will ever go out of style. It's just not my thing. They, my brothers, and brother-in-law almost tricked me into playing during our family vacation this summer by telling me my sister was even going to play (they did the same to her), and my brother helped me create my "character," which was by far the most boring thing I did all vacation. Thankfully, we never got around to actually playing.

Yeah. When I was a kid, my neighbor and I bought a D&D "starter set" and tried to play. It was indeed really boring. Complete waste of money for us. Have never had any desire to play it again.

ETA: I am remembering the Gelatinous Cube from Moria (OLD text/ASCII graphics game)
Found this on Deviant Art. The top line and square "graphics" are a screenie of the Moria game. The bottom part the artist's humor. You are the "@" and the Gelatinous Cube is the "C". IIRC, they were difficult to kill.

Also looks like there's a weapon in the bottom right corner.

ETA2: LOL. I just noticed that there is treasure in the upper right wall. You have to dig to get it. Digging is pointless unless you're equipped with something that can dig, such as a pike or a shovel. Also, that treasure would not have been obvious hidden behind the wall unless the user cast a "find treasure" spell.

LOL Blue, I actually didn't know the answer, although I am older than the game.

It is sad to say, that I was practically sequestered as a child.
My parents never understood the 'new generation'. So something like Dungeons and Dragons was never heard of and certainly it was not something my parents would have ever brought me.
I also wouldn't have had anyone to play it with, as it wasn't anything my friends or family would have played. I actually didn't hear about D&D until I was in my 20's.
It goes without saying, that I never saw or played a video game until I had children of my own. I also didn't learn how to use a computer until 2001.

I've been playing with computers most of my life. Built a Heathkit H-89 with my dad back in '79.
Moria was a late '80s thing. I spent way too much time playing that game.
