I am blind as a bat without my glasses. I have really bad eyes. I was born 6 weeks premature many years ago--back when the dinosaurs ruled the earth. *lol* Back then, preemies were put in an incubator to breathe--and the oxygen really messed with their eyes. So, of course, my eyes didn't stand a chance. I have amblyopia--which means that the brain shut down one eye. It can be corrected, but only if done so before about the age of 5. And well, no one knew until I was 8. So, though I see light and colors and stuff out of the BAD eye, the good eye has pretty much taken charge of the situation and told the other one to go jump in the lake. I just got new glasses--two pair--sunglasses and regular glasses--and the two pair cost $1200. What's sad is that the lenses cost more than the frames. But, hey, at least I can see. Many people can't. And seeing is great!!!! Even if done through pieces of glass.

Oh, I should have clarified. Yep, they are still used. Of course. But back when I was born, they didn't realize that high levels of oxygen would damage a baby's eyes. They cranked up the oxygen and didn't regulate the percentage in the incubator. This all changed when a few doctors started noticing a pattern and began conducting clinical trials to see if their theories were correct. In the very late 1950's/early 60's, they were able to convince the medical community of this and doctors started using low levels of oxygen in the incubators instead. Unfortunately, I was born shortly before they convinced the medical community of this. Though I am lucky. Many preemies went completely blind because of the oxygen. In fact, that is how Stevie Wonder became blind.

I've worn glasses since the 1st grade. My eyes are horrible. Actually one is worse than the others because I was stung in the eye by a wasp when I was 5.

yes, I am, and I'm very proud of it, too...I hate wearing contacts. Well, for one, they're uncomfortable and dry out my eyes, but also I really think that glasses are generally more attractive than non-glasses. For me and for other people...

i've worn glasses since the seventh grade. i had contacts for a while but even after a month, my sensitive eyes continued complaining so i've resorted back to glasses.
