I can never use these things because I put my pets in the lodge so they aren't hungry. How does it work? Is it like the Soup Faerie where you just click and it says the pet ate something?

It works exactly like that. Although with the Miranda stand, you can choose which drink you can give your pet like the General Mills stand that they had many months ago.
