I only just now realised that the books were vanishing. I always thought it was the pet that could vanish.

It's just to keep the population of books down, that's all. It's been like that for quite a while because Neopets has millions of users. That's also why not all numbers you can pull in the Tombola game give out prizes.

It's to keep the book's value up. If the book didn't disappear, then there would be billions of books and it wouldn't be that hard to read ALL the books in neopia to your pet because they would be so common that the value would go down, then there would be a massive tie for first place in the Neopian Book Award and there would be chaos.

So be happy with what you have, even if it disappears in a puff of purple smoke whenever you read it :)

Ya it's so their won't be tons of books around, and thats why retired books can cost so much because they're become so few of them.

Same here, Shapu. The first time I read a book to my pet, some 3-1/2 years ago, it vanished into a puff of blue smoke or something like that. And I was so upset. Then I found out that was supposed to happen. :P

I remember when they didn't disappear. Tons of books were selling for 3-5 np each. I used to buy a ton of then for 1-3 np and sell them for 5. :lol: At the time I thought I was smart and that it was a good way to make money. I remember when they changed it and the prices started going up too. :P

I've been playing Neo for 64 months and the books have always vanished since I started playing 0.o

I started in 2001, and books didn't vanish then. I used to have a book store - I'd read a book to all my pets and then sell it for 300-700np and feel very pleased :)

I just checked the list of books my oldest pets have read, and it's horrible to think how much they're worth now :( (Basic Mathematics! Oh dear)
