I'm a tad confused -- nowadays the Better than You seems to be open for awhile after it's announced, but this perplexing message is scrolling across the screen:

Does that mean they never opened this week's competition? Or that it's over and the message has the wrong date?

I've heard that the BTY game was Meepit vs. Feepit. Maybe it was a really easy to attain score because lots of people didn't even get to see what it was.

It was Meepit vs. Feepit, to get a score of 3050. The BTY game supposedly ended in 45 minutes. Thats why most of us saw the whole "competition over"
