My dad got a new double-sided printer, and there's this option to "collate". What is this collate?

Say you print out a 5-page paper three times. Without collating, it would print the first page three times, then the second three times, then the third, and so on. If you collate, it prints the five pages in order then repeats twice.

Non-collated:

AAABBBCCCDDDEEE

Collated:

ABCDEABCDEABCDE
