Probably the same reason as a lot of toilet cubicals have the blue lights over them now so people can't "shoot up" in there.

wouldn't he turn more of a dark, royal purple, since normal flesh eventually becomes bluish purple? I thikn they can turn red though... *attempts to remember cartoon*
