The first one was inspired by my costume last Halloween, and the second was based on a friend of mine. The aforementioned friend mistook my writing for some of Shel Silverstein's poems, so, needless to say, I'm very flattered.
I'm writing more as we speak, expect updates.
Both were written while listening to Tim Burton's "Vincent".
A Monster’s Lament
Felice the Fang is a beast that impresses
She's always well-groomed and wears fancy dresses
She wouldn't dream of lurking in closets or under your bed
Or scaring small children with her three snarling heads
Yet despite all she does, no matter how hard she pleads
No one ever visits her Afternoon Teas
Ode to a Troubled Carrot
When fall rolled around and harvest time came
One stubborn carrot just couldn’t be claimed
Neither human nor beast could pry it from the earth
The carrot stuck firm, for all it was worth
Month after month and year after year
The carrot hid, consumed by its fear
They’ll cook me, they’ll boil me and they’ll put me in a stew
I’m staying right here and there’s nothing anyone can do
But, sadly, carrots were not meant to be for so long
Unlike the birds and the beasts, carrots just aren’t that strong
It kept hidden away for a year, maybe two
But before long the poor carrot rotted right through
