What is the cause/meaning of when a box comes up saying an illegal operation has been performed (and then whatever I was in closes)? This doesn't happen to me often but once in a while on my photo program or while I'm on the internet this happens... o_O

It means that the program has performed an operation (probably in the background, not with your instruction) that isn't allowed of it. I've noticed it seems to happen a lot on older computers, mainly those with Windows 98 SE and below.

EDIT: and here's some more information, scroll down the page some until you see "Illegal Operation" written in bold type.

:) Thanks for answering my question! Yep, I have 98 SE (bleh..) but i should be getting a new computer in about a month so hopefullythat will be the end of this problem...
