After the Asuma thing, Sauske killed Oro, Konoha found out, Tsunade told Naruto and Sakura, Sasuke formed Hebi to find Itachi, and Konoha made that group to chase down Itachi as well, knowing they'd bump into Sasuke. This picture explains things (kind of).

I dont know exactly how it happened or when, but I believe it was a little while back. I think Asuma, Shikamaru, Kotetsu and Izumo were sent off to pwn some Akatsuki dudezors. So they're all liek.. BIZZAM and Hidan is liek WOAH MAH FRIXIN HEAD FLEWED AWF and he get's all mad and then Asuma is all x_x and Shikamaru is all like ZOMG U HOBO WIF TEH BLOOD AND DA FLYNG LIMBZ.
