Does anyone remember a long time ago, I was planning on doing an article on PPT for a local teen newspaper I was working at? Yeah, that fell through, me being the terrible procrastinator that I am. But now I'm doing a similar article, only focusing on people who've met each other through PPT or other places online. I know that quite a few people here have done so, and I'd like to be able to talk about some of them in the article. (Even if you really don't want to be in it, I'd still be interested to hear).

So yeah... I wouldn't mind hearing a little about your encounters - who you met, how you arranged it, what kind of place you met at, what the whole experience was like. I may not end up using all of it in the article, but I'd like to have some general information about how these things work out.

(Oh, and please don't mind me if I sound generally obtuse at the moment; it's 2:00 AM and I'm really tired)

I guess I might as well be, seeing as I initiated all of them.

Right, so you already know how we met,
Stacey and I met while I was in Denver for a conference. We met at a cafe and chatted for a bit.
Scott and I met in Irvine for another conference.

Meetings were planned online at first, and then over the phone.

Er, might I mention that if anyone plans to meet someone else, you should bring people along? Ariel had her parents, Stacey brought her husband, and Scott was with his school friends. I brought friends to all those meetings. Be safe, eh?

Its slightly unlikely for me to meet anyone from PPT seeing there are only 3-5 NZers on here.

Well, I never met anyone IRL... But I knew Luc from another forum and he didn't tell me he joined PPT so I sort of *bumped* into him at PPT

Edit: Oh and I met Genevieve (from the old forums) IRL, but since we're in the same class I don't think that counts either

I haven't met anyone from PPT, Subeta, Neoitems, NNN or anywhere else.

I -have- met several people from a Dutch forum I go to. Once or twice a year we hold a big meet and everyone gets together somewhere in the middle of the country.^^ (There are numerous little meets though)

Well, that would be sort of impossible for us as most of us don't live in the same country . Anyway, there are only about 3 people including myself who are from Scotland. I would probably be meeting Elle as I think she stays in the Lowlands like me. And the closest non-scot to me is Igg who stays about Carlisle!

Well, umm.. Lets see.. Shfty lives really close to me, like 10 minutes from my house, but I never met her.
I was on another forum, wich I left for a couple of reasons, and we had a couple of get togethers, and they were really fun! But it was a forum from Israel so it was no problem meeting.

To say it quickly, nah. Never met anyone. Probably because I cant... The only person me to possibly meet from the forums is probably Silja, she's even in the same country! Yay!

The only possible way I could meet someone without bringing anyone along would be at a journalism workshop/convention. Well, if anyone's in journalism and is going to the national convention on Spring Break, tell me! XD

But no, I haven't met anyone. I think that pokemew233 and Chrome are the two people on PPT that I know that live the closest to me.

Speculation Central - Thinking about the future... Today!

Yes I did, with a good friend from PPT (she doesn't come here anymore as far as I know). Since then I made an agreement with my mother that I will not meet online people without her knowing again. My advice is that a person under 18 should meet another online person only with parents' permission and making sure that someone else is with them for the meeting - just in case.
