I thought they'd already found Lyra! Ooh, if only I was a year younger :P I might badger my 9 year old sister to go, lol, she looks quite Lyra-esque :)

If they have continued with the policy of cutting everything "God" related out of this movie, i'm boycotting.

Ditto upon what she said. It's a book that has a bloody war against god in it.

Pullman expressed a wish for her to play Mrs. Coulter, but as far as I know they haven't actually casted her.

Personally, I'd rather have Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Speaking of Catherine Zeta-Jones, I was really freaked out that she was born in England, because she might concievably have been cast as Bellatrix. Luckily, I don't have to worry about it any more, and Helen McCrory looks less like me, did I mention that?

Nicole Kidman is a better actress, a better villain, and better at putting on accents. Don't dis her.

I'm a purist in nearly everything. However, I really hope they find some way to circumvent the scene where Lyra was talking to Dark Matter. That was just too trippy for words. (I haven't read the book in a while, though, so I don't remember anything about the conversation except that it included exposition about the Knife.)

She wasn't born in England.

I enjoyed the books but I have some concerns about the films. I think I'll have to wait until someone else has watched it so they can tell me if it's worth watching or not.

I can't wait for this movie, and I'm not too concerned about cutting God or anything like that.
Phillip Pullman talked about their cutting God on his site (the artcle is here, it's from quite a few months ago), and he seemed fine with it.
I'm sure it will turn out great.

That disturbs me. The books were offensive for a reason.

And no, Catherine Zeta-Jones is not English. She's Welsh. She is from the United Kingdom, if that's what you were going for. And she'd make a damn fine Mrs. Coulter. And she can act just fine (especially with the right director). She didn't win an Oscar by sucking. However, I'm sure Nicole Kidman would do a good job as well. Yahoo seems to think she's been casted, but IMDB doesn't have a cast list yet.

Indeed, she's Welsh. How welsh depends on which awards ceremony she's attending ;)

Ditto again.

Can't wait for the movie, as I loved the book(s), but if they cut out half the storyline.... o.O

reviving this thing, sorry.

But they've cast Lyra!

His Dark Materials.org wrote:
Newcomer Dakota Blue Richards has landed the coveted role of Lyra Belacqua after an extensive casting search conducted across England and numerous follow-up screen testings. Says Pullman in regards to casting, "I'm delighted with the casting of Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra. As soon as I saw Dakota's screen test, I realized that the search was over. Dakota has just the combination of qualities that make up the complicated character of this girl, and I very much look forward to seeing the film take shape, with Dakota's Lyra at the heart of it.

Here's a link to a copy of the full article: click!

Fine with me so far, as there are no pictures yet. Though I have to admit, I skimmed the thing the first time, and my eyes hit 'Dakota' and I was like "WHAT?! NO WAY IN HELL." and then I saw 'Blue Richards' after the 'Dakota' and was veryvery relieved. Very.

ALSO. CLICK NOW!

Look! Bear! BEAR!!!

It looks so freaking awesome. D=

*is trying to be very optimistic, as is still very disappointed about the snipping of certain VERY PROMINENT AND TIED TO THE PLOT parts that were in the books*

yeah.
